Marvel’s head honcho talks about Spider-Man and Daredevil’s eventual inclusions into the MCU and we have the details right now on Clevver News Feed! Turns out it’s not just us fans that are excited for Spider-Man’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe next year. During a Q&A session for the upcoming Blu-ray release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel president Kevin Feige was expectedly bombarded with questions about next year’s Captain America: Civil War and specifically about the 15-year-old Spider-Man’s inclusion. Feige was quick to point out that Civil War is still very much a sequel to Winter Soldier, and ultimately a Cap-centered movie, adding that the film’s writer/directors, The Russo Brothers, balance all of the characters in this new outing in the same simple thriller-movie fashion that Cap 2 did. That being said, Feige also noted that having Spidey show up has always been a dream for the creative team, with Marvel always keeping contingency plans in their back pocket for the inclusion/exclusion of various characters and actors, which has always included a high-school aged Peter Parker in the mix. Feige also capitalized with the strong statement that, “it’s not about when you show up, it’s about what you do once you’re there.” And while that was all Kevin had to say about Spidey in Civil War, he made sure to point out that the most important thing about Spider-Man for Marvel and for all of their properties is to make a great standalone film that also happens to fit into the larger universe, specifying that contrary to popular belief, the connectivity of their films isn’t the main priority. Adding on to the topic of the standalone film due in 2017, Feige was asked if Vincent D’Onforio’s “Kingpin” from Netflix’s Daredevil could appear as the antagonist at some point which Feige responded that it would be a cool thing to do, but it hasn’t been discussed as of yet. On the topic of Daredevil, Feige referred to the situation of eventually having to include Marvel’s TV Shows within their movies saying, “I think that’s inevitable at some point…” before going on to say that the schedules between the TV Shows and films don’t always allow for the proper timing to make cameos possible. As Marvel movies take several years to crank out, shows like Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil and the eventual additions of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist can already be moving on to second, third, or fourth seasons so timing is really the major force here. Perhaps Feige and crew need to bust out the Time Stone? Someone who also probably wishes they had a Time Stone is Drew Goddard thanks to his recently cancelled Sinister Six project, but the writer/director has his own thoughts on Daredevil’s eventual inclusion in the MCU telling IGN during press for The Martian that quote, “The thing about Matt Murdock is he’s not saving the world. He’s just keeping his corner clean,” pointing out that Daredevil is best off in the slow burn world of Netflix as is the character’s R-rated violence. Goddard revealed that he had first pitched Daredevil’s introduction into the MCU as a movie, but ultimately felt he’s better on the small screen since Marvel currently isn’t in the business of making smaller budgeted. But what do you think? What kind of impact will Spidey have on the MCU and how do you see Daredevil fitting in?
