Brazilian Wandering Spider Feeding (2)

An adult 4 inch female brazilian wandering spider (Phoneutria nigriventer) feeding on a mealworm beetle (Tenebrio molitor). The brazilian wandering spider is a very large true spider and belongs to the ctenid family. It will prey upon a variety of animals, ranging from insects to small invertebrates that do not exceed much the spider's own size. It has a very powerful venom that poses potential threat to humans; although deaths are rare, medical attention is required if bitten. The spider is fast, nimble and can be very aggressive if it feels threatened. That said, extreme precaution is needed when one decides to raise one as a pet. They will make very good additions to your collection of exotic pets, but always bear in mind the danger they represent and never underestimate the spider's speed or venom toxicity.
