The world's biggest GIANT SPIDER so big it can eat birds, frogs, lizards and rodents!
This hairy eight legged whopper is called the Goliath Bird Eating Spider. It’s a species of tarantula found in South America and it happens to be the world’s largest spider by mass.
And as its name suggests, this hairy scary critter is large enough to feast on birds, rodents, frogs, lizards and even small snakes… but in fact these animals are not its primary diet. Like all spiders, the Goliath Bird Eating Spider actually eats mainly insects.
As for it being a threat to humans… well, apart from scaring the living daylights out of them, the Goliath Bird Eating Spider’s bite is apparently no worse than the sting of a wasp – and they generally only bite people in self-defence.
So maybe comfort yourself with that… next time one of these whoppers strolls across your pillow.
This has been another amazing planet production. Thanks very much for watching.
The music was composed by Kevin MacLeod and is called "Controlled Chaos" (no percussion):
