9. The Scorpion-Tailed Spider
Only the females of this species are known to have the scorpion-like tail that is actually their abdomen that has taken the bizarre shape. These spiders are located in Australia where they often live in colonies, though the females don’t travel to the webs of other females.

8. The Happy Face Spider
This species of spider is located in Hawaii where it’s closely related to the black widow, however, unlike its relative this spider isn’t dangerous to humans. They get their name for the markings found on their abdomen that resemble that of a smiley face, though not all spiders have this particular marking or any markings at all. Because of where their habitat is located, these spiders are considered to be endangered due to the dwindling rainforests.

7. The Spiny Orb Weaver
These spiders, also known as horned spiders, are actually classified as a type of genus, instead of a species because there are up to 70 species that we currently know of. Though they make look frightening, they are actually completely harmless and are located all over the world, mostly around houses and gardens. Their famous horns are actually a defense mechanism to keep away the birds.

This spider is located in the remote area of Madagascar and in certain parts of Africa and Australia. 5. The Bagheera Kiplingi Spider
What’s pretty amazing about this little species is that these jumping spiders are the first known vegetarians of its kind. They’re located in Central America and like to feed on tasty leaves where they survive on a diet free of meat. They’re only as big as the fingernail on your pinky and tend to avoid ants by hiding from them.

4. The Huntsman Spider
This type of spider is sometimes misidentified as a tarantula due to their size. The key way to identify them is by looking at their legs. They also have twisted joints that let them move like crabs, which is where they get their nickname from.

This spider happens to be the largest spider in the world clocking in at around 6.2 oz and with legs that can grow out to be as wide as a foot long. This species of tarantula happen to have the most painful urticating hairs on their bodies. Urticating hairs are known as a defense mechanism in certain species of animals, such as porcupines, and what it means is that the goliath spider is able to shoot out projectiles of hair or bristles at predators.

1.The Wandering Spider
Also known by its nickname, the banana spider, this arachnid is considered to be the most venomous spider in the entire world. This is because one of the most potent neurotoxins known as PhTx3 is found in their venom and in strong doses can cause a person to become paralyzed or even die due to asphyxiation.
