IS A MONKEY A GOOD PET FOR YOU
Hello everyone my name is Michael Poggi and welcome to Poggi's Animal House!
We are an animal sanctuary here in Florida and we rehabilitate many animals. We've taken in thousands of animals. But we also breed marmoset monkeys and the monkeys that we sell are helping out to pay for rehabilitating animals.
Now many of you have asked about is a monkey a good pet? Well yes, monkeys can be good pets but it depends on the kind you get. If you're gonna get a baby pet marmoset monkey that's going to be your best bet and that's what this is right here to take a close up look right there. That is a baby marmoset monkey.
Now those are the best pets in the primate world because the smallest. In other words, these monkeys are going to be no bigger than a baseball with full grown that's pretty small. So marmoset monkeys are better known as pocket monkeys or finger monkeys or the call pygmy marmoset. Sometimes which are not the case, but people call on that. So these type of monkeys are miniature monkeys so for example we call them teacup monkeys. So this is a teacup Monkey! Now teacup monkeys never get very big and the thing that is that they make great companions, because monkeys are very social and they love other people, so they want to be around me all the time.
But the other important thing is how the monkey was raised. You wanna buy a monkey from somebody that is going to be not tame to you in your family. In order to make sure that the monkeys tame to you in your family. It happens day one from us! Our job is to make sure that a marmoset monkey is super tame and also super social. Now to get a monkey socialized has to start with us, so we take turns holding the monkey every two hours around the clock. So that when you get you want to do any of that. So but the key is this, that when the monkey is growing up at this age while we have a gets used to people so it sees many people on our staff we've got a staff of 4 people that all help out the hand team and socialize the little guys. So these monkeys become used to people, not just used to me! Now if you want to save some money and buy a monkey for less money you can do so but it's not going to be as tame and that's because that to have four adults hand taming a monkey are taking turns feeding a monkey costs more money. So if you're looking to save money then most likely among he's not going to be tame socialized like you think. Socialized monkeys are a heck of a lot different. Now if you watch my videos you'll notice that I have hand team leopards and they are socialized. That's very difficult to do so we are experts at socializing exotic wild animals like this. Now when I say wild animals these are not from the wild, these are from captivity so they not pulled from the wild. These are born in captivity here in a facility and these are tame companions no different than getting a puppy or dog or some sort just like that.
So is a monkey a good pet?
Is a primate a good pet?
Absolutely! But if you get a bigger monkey like the Capuchin, which people call in cappuccino monkeys, how funny is that? A capuchin monkey or a spider monkey or let's say a squirrel monkey those are all bigger and yes to a lot more expensive, but they could be dangerous.
