Identifying Burrows - Finding HUGE Trapdoor Spiders in Wild Australia
3 distinct burrow formations, 3 highly specialized species!
Hey guys! This little video is a survey of our friends property.
As fellow nature nuts, they quickly noticed the abundance of HUGE spider holes on their property in northern NSW. Curious to know what locals shared their new home, they called us out to take a look with them !

This is what we found was living in each of the three distinct burrow types we found - three utterly unique and highly specialized species of Australian trapdoor spider.
*One that thrives on steep slopes, builds adorable soft lidded burrows that often face sideways or upside down - Black as coal, and prickly as a cactus! (in more ways than one)
*One that never builds a lid, preferring to weave grasses, and leaves into tubes that sometimes raise a few inches above ground! Gold, black and cherry, a sight to behold!
*And one that embraces it's name, and always builds a heavy-duty trapdoor-lid (that 'thunks' shut and seals air tight when closed.) Always perfectly sculpted, perfectly round and perfectly sealed. And the beauty inside glows like a red ruby in the light !
