http://bss.sfsu.edu/holzman/courses/fall%2003%20project/writing_spider.htm I seldom see one of these spiders in the city, usually only in the country. This is an Argiope female spider determined by the size. The female's body is much larger than the male. Her body is about 1/1/2 inches long, and from front legs to back legs is about 3 1/2 inches long. She has 8 eyes, so I know she probably seen me photographing her, and making her a star, but she didn't seem to care or move. She is very alien looking up this close. This spider spins a web with a zig zag design, which you can see in the video. I don't care much for spiders and I can spot a brown recluse across the room, and don't hesitate to kill them. . I have some of the large brown spiders that appear in late summer and fall . I found a harmless house spider in the utility room and and put it outside. For the most part spiders don't bother me, and I don't bother them. I just leave them to their spidering. I have one by the garage that's been there for a few weeks now . He is huge and also an engineering wonder at spinning his web every evening to make his living. It is amazing how they have their webs suspended in mid air by their suspension cords out threads of silk. I have walked into their webs and have torn them down. What is interesting they will build it back in the same place the next day only a foot higher so I can walk under it, and they won't have to rebuilt it. . I find that very iinteresting.
