Spider Plant's - Chlorophytum comosum
Native to Africa. In 2008 NASA conducted experiments to determine which plants did the best job of cleaning air in enclosed spaces and found the the lowly spider plant not only generated oxygen and removed CO2 in relatively low levels of light, it also has the remarkable ability to trap and absorb many toxic pollutants such as Formaldehyde (given off by sofa pads and under carpet pads), Trichlorethylene (used in glues used for making plywood and gluing down linoleum, ceramic tiles and used in paints), and benzene. It was rated in the top three plants tested by NASA for air pollutant removal. And of those three it is easiest to grow.
As is pointed out in this video, the Spider Plant is a very hardy house plant, drought tolerant (so if you forget to water it, it will probably recover, unlike many house plants that if you forget to water them will die very rapidly), tolerates lower light levels common to indoor conditions well (low levels of light cause many house plants to grow spindly and to suffer).
It's easy to care for and to propagate new plants from. If you keep your eyes open you can probably find a friend or a business with one or more of these growing and can ask for a start, just pinch or cut off one of the babies that grow on the runners and you have your own new Spider Plant. You can also usually find them at Lowes or Home Depot and many gardening supply stores and nurseries.
I no longer have plants available, sorry about that, however it is fairly easy to find spider plants as they are widely distributed and very popular, and if they have a runner with a baby on it you have a start.
