Honduras curly hair tarantulas mating

An attempt at breeding some our spiders (Brachypelma albopilosum) in the bug house. The small male was geriatric and this was his last opportunity to pass on his genes.
His escape was a near miss, the females (as is the case with most spiders, not just the Widows) generally try to attack the males after mating. He is simply the nearest source of food to give her spiderlings the best start in life.
Unfortunately the motherly instinct of this female failed to materialise when she ate her babies just as they started to hatch out :(
