CRAZY! Female tarantula kills male.

I left them alone together for a few minutes and he wandered over near her. He did some tapping with his front legs, and then waited several minutes and this happened. The mature male was quite a bit smaller and I had my doubts about this working. As you can see, she was WELL fed, and quite fat before this happened.

Male was introduced into tank beforehand without her, and allowed to wander. Some dirt from her tank was placed inside of the male's cup. Then for 2 days, I had the male in a deli cup inside the female's tank so they could sense each other around. Male became more restless and finally tonight I let him out of his container.

Though this was a tiny male, it had tibial spurs and clearly swollen emboli. The female is 10 years old and what I would consider to be quite large for the species. Beyond what I mentioned, I did nothing special prior to introducing them, besides feed both parties.
