Corn Snake having a meal - video 2

Here is the promised video of my Corn Snake having a meal. Be warned that it is not for the faint hearted.

He is only a baby, so he is still on dead pinky mice. It has been humanely killed, I can assure you. I do not like feeding dead rodents, but there are no alternatives, and rodents contain all the nutrients they need to remain healthy. They need feeding once a week when they are adults. Snake is still a baby, so I give him a pinky mouse twice a week. When he grows, he will graduate onto adult dead mice.

Snakes regularly shed their skin as they grow. We have had Snake for just over a month now and he has shed his skin twice. They need a large bowl of deep water as they need to drink regularly and they sometimes like to bathe in it and also poo in it. Therefore, it should be changed daily or changed immediately after they have emptied their bowels in it as it can make them ill if they drink contaminated water. Bathing also assists them to neatly shed their skin in one piece. Sometimes they have trouble shedding their skin and it comes off in bits. It is them that they need a helping hand from their owner to remove any pieces skin left on their body, as this can irritate the new skin underneath and this can cause body sores.

Snake is very sweet and has a lovely nature. Corn snakes rarely bite and they are not venomous, and if handled at least once a day, they do become very tame. Note that you should not handle them for at least 48 hours after a feed, as it may cause them to regurgitate their meal.

His name is just 'Snake'. Karen did not like the name 'Mushu' for him. I really need to use a better quality camera, or get Karen to teach me how to use mine properly. Its fascinating to watch such an unusual way of eating a meal.

I am still trying to locate a reptile savvy vet in the United Kingdom. If any one knows of a good reptile vet, then I would be most grateful if you could let me know.
