There has always been a lot of controversy as to which snake is truly the biggest in the world, and since the largest snake that ever existed, Titanboa, went extinct millions of years ago, the title is still up for grabs. Scientists have spent years gathering data to settle these arguments as to which snake should deserve this title and have come to the final conclusion that the Giant Anaconda has earned it’s right to the title. There has still been much debating the matter, however until another more qualified contender comes to weigh in, the Giant Anaconda is king.

The Giant Anaconda is known to be the world’s biggest snake ever simply because of its girth. The biggest Giant Anaconda that was caught by scientists was measured at 28 feet long and was estimated to weight well over 500 pounds as they didn’t have the ability to weigh her upon capture. This particular breed of Anaconda can be found within the jungles of South America and have the ability to grow to be as big around as a full grown man. These ‘man-eaters’ are generally found hanging out near water, and it isn’t uncommon to see them swimming around and diving to the water depths.

Giant Anacondas are part of the boa constrictor family, meaning they coil around their prey and squeeze the air from their lungs. The pressure that is created with their large and powerful bodies can not only cause suffocation, but also break bones and cause internal bleeding which is generally what will kill they prey first. Once their prey has died, the snake unhinges its jaw to allow for the prey to easily become ingested even though this can take a bit of maneuvering and work on the snake’s part. Anacondas can be found eating fish and other aquatic animals, caimans, deer, jaguar, and other snakes.

While Anacondas are not exactly known for being aggressive, they will attack people if bothered or angered by anyone or anything that is near them. These snakes won’t think twice about striking out and biting down onto their aggressor, then coiling around them until they stop moving or have died. It is rarely ever reported when an Anaconda has attacked a person as in many cases the individual who was attacked likely aggravated the snake or attempted to catch it.
