I have used hook training techniques with each of my snakes starting them off as babies so they become familiar with this process of reducing the strikes that are normal when any snake is cage defensive and/or is looking for a meal. It's very effective, harmless and the snakes learn by association so once they see the hook or get tapped by the hook it cancels their defensive behavior most of the time as well as their feeding response.
