Getting a Snake? Make sure it's not Sick!

While picking out your new reptile, here are some quick and simple things to look for to ensure you're investing in a happy, healthy animal.
It's as simple as checking their eyes, nose, tongue, and scales. Snakes can get respiratory infections just like people. Although it's easy to cure, it's something you want to avoid. A runny nose or wheezing while it breaths are the two most obvious signs that it has a cold. A healthy snake will also have a bright, flicking tongue and will be very aware of it's surroundings. If it seems a bit sluggish or out of it, it may not be the best choice. It could also have injuries to a few scales. It could also potentially have some stuck shed on it. (I often see this on animals at large pet chains). These generally aren't big deals but you want to buy from somebody who you know is properly raising and caring for these animals.
Don't let any of these things discourage from buying a new scaly family member! It's worth any and all effort that you put into them.
