Hey every one, here is the care video that I promised I would make! Please remember that if you are buying a corn snake for the first time, check out other videos and care sheets and talk to your local petstore of breeder for more information. Thanks for watching! Care sheet is right below this!
Corn Snake Care Sheet
Housing: can be kept in a 20 gallon for a few years, when adults or when big enough they should be kept in a 40 gallon, bigger is better! As long as the snake can turn around in the tank comfortably the terrarium is a good size.
Décor: You should have at least one hide on the cool side of the terrarium and one hide on the warm side, a humidity hide when shedding, and some fake plants as they like to hide in them! Always have a water dish in the terrarium on the cool side, and make sure it is big enough so your snake can bathe in it if he wants too!
Substrate (bedding): Substrate that you SHOULD have in your tank is newspaper, paper towel, or aspen bedding (my favorite). Substrate that you SHOULDN'T have is pine bedding, sand or dirt. Pine and sand are known to cause problems and dirt from outside may contain parasites that can be harmful to your snake.
Heating/Lighting: Have a heat mat placed under the terrarium (I recommend zoo-med). Also you should have a 75 watt red infrared bulb, also placed on the warm side of the terrarium and you should use an adjustable lamp so you can control how warm the terrarium is. Keep the heat mat on 24/7 but turn the lamp off at night.
Shedding/Humidity: Corn snakes need little to no humidity unless they are in shed. They shedding process takes a few days and they usually shed about once a month. When they are in shed their skin will become loose and their color will be faded, also their eyes will look cloudy. When in shed provide a humid hide.
Food: Babies can eat about every 5-7 days and adults once a week. They should be fed the appropriate sized mouse (no more than 1 ½ times the width of the thickest part of their body).
Size: About 4-5 feet long and a few centimeters in circumference.
Lifespan: About 15-20 years with the proper care.
Extra: Corn snakes can be kept in pairs or trios year round as long as they are around the same size and age.
