A cat and rat have struck up an unlikely friendship - after the rodent was rescued from being snake food.
Prudence the cat took special care of Cooper the rat by licking his head, cuddling it and holding it close.
The two appear inseparable, with the alley cat having also been rescued, three years prior after she was found abandoned as a kitten.
Pauline Morin, 55, from Maine, USA, said, "I found Cooper, the dumbo rat, in the pet store about to be fed to snakes.
