We have cctv cameras in all of out nest logs and a couple of nights ago, I got video of a near seven foot Black rat snake trying to eat a pair of our Ivory Bill Aracaris. The Video is about 7 minutes long but Incredible! It is kind of sinister but interesting all at the same time. The birds seam to play dead as a defense mechanism as the snake bites them and tries to figure out where their heads are. I think the long bills confused it and probably saved them till I made it out there.
Thankfully My wife sat down at the computer after 11pm (which she normally doesn't do) and saw the snake on the monitor. My heart about stopped when I heard heard her scream and I saw the snake in the monitor. But I was able to run out to their aviary rip the snake out of the log before it could hurt the birds. Towards the end of the video you see a white flash which is my flashlight and then you can see where I am yanking the snake out of the log.
Enjoy, Mike
