Female python- het clown - 5 month old - TIAMAT first feeding with small mouse.

I was REALLY starting to get worried. I bought Tiamat off craigslist and 4 weeks ago. She has just finished shedding couple of weeks ago and still had not fed.

I tried 3 different larger rats, which the owners said that they had just fed her. She did NOT have the slightest interest in the rats and they ended up killing each other and finally the last rat ATE the second the last rat.

Like I said, I was starting to worry about her because the was starting to lose weight. I read on the internet that even if a python is hungry if they don't feel secure they will act like they are afraid of their food. Which is what Tiamat was doing.

I read that they need space to feed and strike. So I put the mouse in HER habitat. The first thing the mouse did was go into here hide. BIG MISTAKE!! Tiamat struck at her TWICE and run her out.
Then as the mouse was 'exploring' tiamat slowly stuck her head out of her hide and being very still watching the mouse and waiting for it to foolishly get close the the entrance of her hide and then BLAM!!!

So I made her a bigger hide so she would feel secure and put a medium sized mouse in the cage with her and she finally fed this morning.

I was hoping to avoid putting her food in the cage with her but I was desperate. I am in the process of constructing a better cage for her and will use the 30 gallon take just for feeding her in.

Anyway, I am very happy she finally ate. Even if I had to play to her instincts..
