VPRO Metropolis correspondant Preab Thearith follows Sombath on his daily rat hunt, and sees how Sombath is killing rats, cooking rat meat, and eating rat meat. Rats are common food in Cambodia. By catching rats in Cambodia, Sombath can provide food for his family. The rats like to eat rice and grass, but they especially like the rice, that’s maybe why rat meat tastes so good?
Sombath also sells the rat meat on the market, and he especially likes to skew the rats instead of making rat meatballs: “If you know how to prepare rat meat, it tastes better than pork.”
