Baby Ball Python Eats a Rat

Feeding time for my baby ball python.

The meal is a small-medium rat. Pre-killed because I don't feel like watching my snake get bit by a rat fighting for its life.

If you are wondering why I am feeding my snake in a cardboard box, it is because the snake is smart enough to know that whatever goes into that box after him, is food. I don't want him thinking that while he is in his cage, where I have to put my hands.

The snake is a captive bred male. I estimate him to be between 22 and 26 inches long.

Nothing special about him other than he is like 66% het for some rare color pattern which means nothing to me since I will probably never breed him.

Took him about an hour and 15 minutes to eat the rat after several false starts (trying to start swallowing at the butt, the right front paw, the back of the head, etc) and getting stuck for a good 10 minutes at the rats hips.

If you watch just after he gets tha last of the tail in his mouth he begins to open and close his mouth. That is because he is putting his jaw back together after having unhinged it to get around the rat.

This was a pretty big meal for him so I probably won't feed him again for about 2 weeks. As you can see in the video, he is nice and chunky, like a ball python is supposed to be.

Music in the vid is 'Eat You Alive' by LimpBizkit and 'Face Fisted' by Dethklok

Video should be in HD so give that a shot if you want. Who knows if it will turn out.
