Keep your rat cage clean by doing a daily, weekly and monthly clean. Rats do not smell but the cage will if it is not cleaned. See our videos, Rats Don't Smell - But The Cage Will, if you don'tclean it, and Keep Your Rat Hammocks Clean.
Every day you need to replace wet paper bedding, clean the litter tray or toilet corner, wipe all shelves and ladders and check toys and equipment are clean and not damaged. At least once a week or more often if you have four or more rats in the cage, you need to wash out the base of the cage and all houses and toys, shelves and ladders and bars. Once a month you should remove the shelves from your cage and take apart all equipment for a good wash. Hammocks get really smelly so should be changed often depending on how many rats you have. If you use fleece liners these must also be changed at least twice a week.
