Grooming your rabbit is one of the most important aspects to bunny pet care. If you're new to owning a rabbit, watch the video to get some bunny pet care facts or read below for my top 5 grooming tips.
Bunny grooming top 5 tips:
1. Buy a sturdy brush. I like to use The Furminator - it's a handy deshedding tool that removes loose hair without harming sensitive skin. It has a FurEjector button, which helps to clean and remove loose hair from the brush.
2. Brush your rabbit daily when experiencing a heavy molt (heavy molts happen seasonally). Brush weekly during light molts.
3. If you have a nervous rabbit, use a towel to help wrap around the rabbit's body to calm them down. This will help to get an easier grip on the rabbit, as well as prevent painful kicks. If needed, get help from a friend.
4. If there is a lot of hair and the brush doesn't cut it. Use your hands to gently pull out loose strands of fur. However, make sure that you do not directly harm the rabbit by pulling too hard. Remember, the fur should fall out easily and not by force.
5. During heavy molts, monitor your rabbit's poop. If you notice a lot of fur passing through their digestive tracks, it's best to amp up your care to prevent GI statis (a deadly sickness).
