Feeding a Wild Bunny Rabbit by Hand

Dislike 0 Published on 8 Sep 2012

This is a wild bunny rabbit that will eat out of our hand. She is not a pet; she comes and goes at will.

We have many bunny rabbits that visit our yard, but this one in the video is the friendliest. The others will stay close even while we are out, but not this close. There is another rabbit that will eat out of my hand, but she is always here after dark and we didn't get video of her.

Since we live in the desert, we have always made sure there is plenty of water out, we also tossed out vegetable peels and scraps. We then got some actual rabbit pellets in hopes of them having a more rounded diet. As soon as the cactus fruit is a bit ripe, we will knock it down a few at a time so they can have it (the chipmunks also knock it down and share with the wild bunnies).

The process of befriending this wild rabbit has taken a good bit of time. I have spent months talking to them when I am out in the yard, they know I am not going to hurt them and they may even know my voice.

The audio for this video is not the real sound going on. I made the bird calling audio one night when a bird sat outside chirping all night. When we video the rabbit, there are cars and people going down the street so I opted to take that noise out and go with something more natural.

We love animals of all kinds. Since we can't always have a real live bunny to snuggle and play with, we sell stuffed rabbits (http://fuzzywuzzyanipals.com/stuffedplushwildlife/bunnies/). Kids need a soft friend and having a stuffed animal may also help them learn about animals and develop a love for all creatures.
