Abigail's Story- Neglect, Fostering, Forever Homes, adopting a rabbit, bunny care & The Easter Bunny

This video is the story of my adopted harlequin rabbit, Abigail. The story directly relates to the topic of rabbit care and rabbit adoption. While rabbits are pretty common companion animals, adoption discussions tend to center more on dog and cat adoptions. So this video pertains exclusively to house rabbits.

Easter can be a depressing time for those who work or volunteer at animal shelters that care for rabbits. The concept of purchasing a "cute little Easter bunny" as a "toy" for children is still pretty common, and 4 out of 5 "Easter bunnies" will wind up at a shelter, overwhelming the available resources, and the end result is that these rabbits are several times more likely to be euthanized than they are to be adopted into a loving forever home.

This practice needs to stop, and the more we discuss this, the more aware others become of just how much [[unnecessary]] suffering this behavior causes. It needs to be emphasized that EACH individual has the opportunity to CHOOSE be part of the problem or part of the solution. Rabbits experience many of the same emotions that people do, and so neglect causes both physical and psychological suffering. Rabbits are not toys for little children. If someone is unwilling to, or unable to, provide proper care for a rabbit, they should not buy or adopt a rabbit as doing so would be cruel.
