ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
We go into detail on how we breed our does. There's many different ways to breed in order to get the number of rabbits you want. We also share with everyone how we get our white rabbits with blue eyes. Look up the Vienna gene or any genetic trigger for blue eyes and you can learn more about the eye and how it gets it's color. I'd like to mention that one of these rabbits in the blood line could have a hidden gene that triggered this called the vienna gene but this usually is more of a true blue. Our rabbits have more of a gray blue. I'm not quite sure what gene or chromosome exactly did it but I wanted to share what color rabbits I bred before seeing the white rabbits with different color eyes. Also, I just want to clarify that our cinnamon rabbits are the same thing as a chestnut rabbit. The name Cinnamon stuck over Chestnut early on for us. The jury is still out if the vienna gene was the culprit. It very well could've been a chromosome from the cinnamon rabbit. The Vienna genes can do some weird stuff. There's vienna carrier and vienna marked. This gene could lie dormant in a rabbit or cause a white spot on a rabbits nose, head or feet. This also is responsible for those beautiful blue eyes. Some breeders breed for shows attempting to achieve the perfect rabbit and this gene throws wrench in their operation. Luckily I don't breed for those purposes and this isn't the end of the world for a rabbit farmer like me. I just want to make sure I mention this to customers when they're buying from this blood line. Just in case they breed for shows.
Many comments are coming in on the subject and they're all very much appreciated. I'm not an expert and I enjoy hearing other peoples thoughts on the subject. The only guarantee with this formula is you'll have litters that are full of colors and you may or may not get your rabbit with the gray blue instead of pink. But I say give it a whirl and see what happens. This isn't normal practice for breeders for show so understand if they may not encourage this experiment. But I personally enjoy mixing them up and watching the dominant and recessive genes play out. I look forward to the litters because they're always different. It did take me several litters before seeing white rabbits without pink eyes and once I had a blue eyed doe I then bred that doe with a Solid REW Buck. This kicked out about half blue and have red eyed rabbits. But again this could've been a chromosome from the chestnut rabbit or something else entirely. I'll be sure to keep everyone posted and share what I find out. Thanks for watching and good luck with your litters.
