Rabbit Genetics - Why Genetics are Important and Some New Additions

I am gonna compare some of the ready to wean kits by size, age, and the size litter they came from to show what a difference one generation can make when you selectively breed for size. I didn't make this known in the video but Ginger, the red doe, was selected from a litter of 6 because she was the largest doe. In the video, I compare the size of Ginger's kits versus the size of Eve's kits. Eve's kits are a week older than Ginger's but they are all smaller. I also show how the difference in size is not totally related to litter size although litter size does make a difference if everything else is equal. In this case, all else was not equal because Ginger's kits are genetically superior for size. Without a good genetic base, even the the best breeders can give a herd the best of care and still find them lacking in many areas. I intend to keep a doe and a buck from Ginger and do some further test breeding with this line. They are not pedigreed so none of them need be shown but we may come up with something that can be shown in the future as I am keeping up with their pedigree from this point forward. We also have some new additions to the Rabbitry that we would like to introduce to you guys. We are very excited to have these new additions and are excited about what this can mean for the future of our Rabbit breeding program. God bless!!!
