NZW Meat Rabbit Litter AH - Day 31, Part 1 (1/2/2012): First Nursing

Dislike 0 Published on 3 Jan 2012

31 days after breeding with B2 on 12/2/2011 and about 20 hours after the birth of the litter, SW feeds the litter for the first time shortly after 6:00AM. She separates the fur to expose the kits and then hover over them to provide access to her nipples. The milk is very rich and therefore does nurse very infrequently (once or twice daily) and feeding sessions last just minutes.

After the doe is done nursing and leaves, the kits quickly return to the warmth of their nest. The kits are still blind at this point since their eyes have not opened. However, they are very good at finding their way back to the nest.
