What and How to feed Leopard Geckos

Leopard geckos are a very popular reptile in the pet trade and have a very simple diet.

They're carnivores so you don't have to worry about any fruits, veggies or greens in their diet like you have to do with a lot of other lizards, but you still need to make sure you're feeding them the right proteins to keep them healthy.

My leopard gecko lives completely on mealworms. They're cheap, easy to keep and care for, and are great for your animal. I have a whole video on mealworms which you can watch.

You don't want to feed your gecko straight mealworms. You want to dust them to make sure they get all the vitamins they need. I dust mine in calcium and vitamin D3.

Simply fill a dish that mealworms can't escape from with as many mealworms as you want and put it into the gecko's tank, then you want to dust them. Just sprinkle some of this dust onto the mealworms and you gecko will ingest it as it eats the mealworms.

You can keep this dish filled at all times or feed them multiple times a week. I feed Goldie, my gecko about 4 to 5 times a week on average. You shouldn't feed them less than twice a week and it's completely fine to always have food available for them, which isn't a bad idea.

Your gecko might not eat mealworms because they can be picky eaters. You will need to keep trying different feeders until you find one that works. If you just recently got your gecko, they might just not be used to their new home yet which means you can just keep trying for a week or two. But if that doesn't work, try other feeders like crickets, dubia roaches, superworms, etc. Some of these are high in fat and are less healthy so make sure you research each one you try to make sure it will work well with your gecko. However, I always recommend mealworms so if your gecko eats them, then you're good to go. Sometimes, leopard geckos just get weird and decide they will all of a sudden not like mealworms, or vise versa if they weren't eating them before. They might all of a sudden like them. Just work with your gecko but that usually won't happen.
