A male California alligator lizard trying to woo a female. The female is perhaps not happy and has caught hold of the male's tail. This species, along with the Fence lizards, plays an important role in reducing Lyme disease. When ticks feed on these lizards, they are rid of the bacteria that can cause the disease. Its the proteins in the blood of the lizards that do the trick.
