Lizards eat many different kinds of lizard food. Most lizards are carnivorous, meaning that they would eat another animal or insect. Some lizards however are considered vegetarians, and their diets would consist mainly of seeds. Some iguanas, such as a desert, iguana, will, eat, insects when younger, and then become a vegetarian as an adult. Owners of iguanas should be very careful when selecting lizard food for their pets.

When selecting things for your iguana or other lizard, you should be conscious of feeding things that provide maximum amount of nutritional value. Types of iguana and lizard food can be divided into different categories. Food considered to be a staple of their diet, and should be the primary form of nutrition for your iguana. There are different foods within that category, so changing up the diet and not always feeding it the same thing is appropriate.

Other foods, considered to be occasional, are necessary to balance out your lizard or iguana's diet. Overfeeding of these can lead to health problems, and should not be considered the primary choice for lizard food. Examples of this type of food would include fruits such as papaya, melon, grapes and apples.

Other foods, though not considered toxic if eaten are only to be given as a treat, taste, or color enhancer, and should be fed alongside a staple in the lizard food diet.

Lizards should be fed daily. When feeding them be sure that the food given is chopped small, and are given in variety. Iguanas like to be on a schedule, similar to people, and should have their breakfast an hour or so after the lights are turned on in its habitat. Just like other pets, lizards and iguanas should be given a bowl of water. The water should be clean and changed every dayhttps://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110427154213AAbS1qu
