Hand Feeding: Juvenile Yellow Ackie Monitor Lizard Eats A Cricket Right From Hand

Dislike 0 Published on 18 Sep 2012

This is my friend's 6 month old Yellow Ackie Monitor Lizard eating a cricket out of his hand.

It's still pretty timid and skittish sometimes. It doesn't tolerate handling at all yet, and it freaks out and goes crazy if you try to touch it or hold it. It's bitten him 2/6 times he's tried to or had to handle it, but he's making good steady progress with tong feeding and now even hand feeding!

He feeds it 10-12 large calcium/vitamin dusted gut loaded crickets total once or twice daily and occasionally pinky mice. When the lizard was younger my friend would cut up pinky/fuzzy mice into appropriately sized pieces, but it would only eat 1 or 2 very small pieces at most, so he stopped feeding mice at all for awhile. Now it eats 2 whole pinky mice from tongs on the days they are offered and seems to enjoy them.

He got it as a 1 month old hatchling measuring only just over 4 inches. Since then, in the past 5 months, it's nearly quadrupled in size! It's now roughly 16-17 inches from snout to tail, and it's eating, sleeping, basking, shedding, and being active like a great happy healthy Ackie Monitor should!

If you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them. My friend who's lizard this actually is has an account, but he just uses it to watch videos and leave comments and stuff. He asked me to upload this for my channel, and he'll come on to answer any questions you have. Thanks!
