Eurasian lizard - Zootoca vivipara - Lacerta vivipara - Viviparous lizard - Common lizard - Newt - Eðla - Eðlur - Sisilisko - Hagedis - Живородящая ящерица - Skogsödla - Ještěrka živorodá - Bergeidechse - Eðluætt - Hreisturdýr - Lacertidae - Skriðdýr - Male got pale spots on the back and belly sometimes oranges. Hunts by day for spiders and small insects and snails. Hibernates from October to March. Most populations are viviparous (giving birth to live young), rather than laying eggs as most other lizards do. Both "Zootoca" and "vivipara" mean "live birth," in Greek and Latin respectively.

Living up to its name, the common lizard is the UK's most common and widespread reptile; it is the only reptile native to Ireland. It is found across many habitats, including heathland, moorland, woodland and grassland, where it can be seen basking in sunny spots. Also known as the 'viviparous lizard', the common lizard is unusual among reptiles as it incubates its eggs inside its body and 'gives birth' to live young rather than laying eggs. Adults emerge from hibernation in spring, mating in April and May, and producing three to eleven young in July. See more: https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/wildlife-explorer/reptiles/common-lizard

While it varies in colour from black to vivid green, the common lizard is usually brown with a pattern of stripes or spots. It has scaly skin, a small, pointed head and measures around 10–15cm in length. Its tail makes up over half of its length. Males have bright yellow or orange-speckled bellies whereas females have paler, plain undersides. The colour and patterning of this species is variable. The main colour is typically medium brown, but it can be also grey, olive brown or black. Females may have dark stripes on their flanks and down the middle of their backs. Sometimes females also have light-coloured stripes, or dark and light spots along the sides of their backs. Most males and some females have dark spots in their undersides. Males have brightly coloured undersides – typically yellow or orange, but more rarely red. Females have paler, whitish underparts. The throat is white, sometimes blue. See more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viviparous_lizard
