How To Paint Your Horse Grooming Brushes

Dislike 0 Published on 20 Sep 2017

Painting horse brushes is an easy and fun project that can help you to be able to distinguish your brushes from someone else's. I had promised you all I would show you hoe to paint a horse brush, and that's what I'm doing today!
To get started, find some horse brushes you would like to paint. I had one new brush, and since I had just cleaned all of my brushes I had a few to choose from.
Next, sand the back of the brush. It doesn't matter if it is wood or plastic, but sand the back to remove any imperfections, and to create a good surface for the paint to bond to.
Next you will want to protect the bristles of the brushes so they don't end up with paint on them. You can use any type of masking tape, but my favorite is the green frog tape.
Then find some primer paint, or even spray paint to act as a base coat.
Once the paint is dry, you can now get really creative and make your brushes custom. I used acrylic paint for this part. The paint brushes I used were also small. The small paint brushes work great to give you a smooth finished paint job without lines. I think it also helps to do several thin coats of paint, allowing drying time between each coat of paint.
You can use stencils or stickers if you like, but I didn't have either of those so I just free hand painted different patterns on the brushes.
And then once the paint was dry, I applied a coat of Mod Podge to seal the brushes. And now I have custom painted horse brushes that are original, and one of a kind!
