Our day trip to the Dyfed Shire Horse Farm in West Wales; a fantastic day out as we were given a personal guided tour of the rare breed farm animals including the sheep, lamas and cattle; plus the pony grooming, and an introduction to each of the shire horses with harnessing demonstrations and talks.

The farm is open to the public two days a week during the summer, for further details and events e.g. hiring shire horses for weddings etc., visit their website.

The day’s event included a land train trailer ride, show horse harnessing and talk, tractor trailer ride, working horse harnessing and talk, and a horse and carriage ride; plus the nature trail around the farm.

We also loved the farms cafeteria which served tradition British food (cooked to perfection) with hot and cold drinks; I had my favourite of egg, chips and baked beans, with a mug of cappuccino. The farm’s gift shop was well stocked with appropriate and good quality items, reasonably priced (rather than the usual overpriced cheap gimmicky gifts all too often found in many tourist and gift shops); we bought a selection of horse brasses to hang in our conservatory (just like you often see in old traditional English pubs), a cast iron welsh dragon trivet for our kitchen, and a slate coaster of the Dyfed shire horse farm.
