Riley has always shown an interest for horses. She’s always loved riding and when she was younger we leased a horse for her. Leading a horse means you don’t own it. You are actually sharing the horse with the owner. You pay monthly and have access to the horse pretty much anytime. (You and the owner choose a schedule so that your riding times don’t conflict.) When we leased the horse Riley was maybe 4 years old. She took riding lessons and learned how to groom the horse. Of course all of this was just for her get acquainted with the horse and learn to be comfortable around these massive creatures. Unfortunately, the horse we leased was not a good match for Riley. We moved a few times but always took Riley riding even though she no longer had access to her “own horse”.
Fast forward 4 years and Riley is now 8 years old taking horse riding lessons. She has decided to focus in on a Barrel Racing. We’ve found an amazing stable and teacher for Riley. We will not be buying a horse but will lease one again, it’s much cheaper! In this video Riley is taking her first ridining lesson since she was 4 years old. In no time she was comfortable and riding around on her own. Kids riding horses is nothing new, but in this video your children can see what it takes to care for a horse, groom a horse, bond with a horse and take the beginning steps of learning how to barrel race with your horse.
Unfortunately it’s a sad time in our history right now. Due to Covid-19 the world is social distancing. So many people are becoming infected and dying so we are staying safe. The supply of face mask has been sold out everywhere and clorox wipes along with hand sanitizer are hard to come by as well. However, they are necessities. According to the CDC we’ve been advised to wear scarf with paper towel as filters if we can’t find masks. (I’m writing all of this for the future when someone runs across this video. Lol Because we are out in nature and not up under lots of people we decided after much prayer and research that Riley can continue lessons. The WHO (World Health Organization) actually advised people to stay riding and support the equestrian community since times are so rough.
We wanted to share Rileys first horse riding lesson with you guys and will continue to add video as she improves her learning of Barrel Racing. Right now her goal is to be ready by August to ride at the state fair. This of course will only happen if we are cleared as a nation to move forward with life as we once knew it.
