How to teach a horse to stand still for grooming without tying? This 20 year old mare is taught that we want her to stand still for grooming without being tied. This can be accomplished different ways, but here we chose positive reinforcement and the help of a clicker. No, this does NOT teach the horse mugging behaviour! It is simply a low stress way of teaching and the horse is required to actively participate in the learning process and showing the horse what it is doing 'good' instead of what it is doing 'bad'.
