How Much Does it Cost To Have a Horse?

Hi everyone! I often see people ask how much does it cost to have a horse? And what costs do you need to think about every month? So I thought I would share with you what it costs me every month to care for my horses.
I am very fortunate that my horses can live where I live, so I don't have to pay to board them. If I had to board them, I know I would only have one horse, because there is no way I could afford the boarding cost along with everything else. So I have to say I am grateful that I can keep my horses at home. But that does have disadvantages too, believe it or not. For example, I spend a lot of time with my horses, and I do mean a lot of time! But that time is not usually spent riding. I am usually feeding, cleaning, fixing fences, or doing continual upkeep on the barn, and maintenance with my horses. But the benefit to this is my horses and I have a very bonded relationship, because they see me day in and day out.
So let me break down the monthly cost of my horses:
Hay $150.00
Grain: $50.00
Supplements: $25.00
Bedding: $50.00
Farrier: $25.00
Vet: $25.00 (just in case, and I save this money if I don't need it during the month)
Tack: $50.00
Total monthly expense per horse: $375.00. For 2 horses that is about $750.00 per month. $375.00 a month isn't that bad, and would be about what I would pay for board, I think.
That may seem like a lot of money, and honestly it is. But there are things I do every month to help off set the cost of having my horses, which I will talk about in my next video!
