The RDS Dublin Horse Show is the biggest and best horse show in Ireland. The leading showjumping and horse breeders compete at it. It is normally held after the
August Bank Holiday Weekend. The Irish Draught Parade and the RID Stallion Class the following day are the horses are shown in hand. This gives breeders and spectators a chance to view and compare various stallions shown alongside each other at the show. The Irish Draught horse is a native Irish horse breed descended from the hobby. It is a versatile breed and some Irish draughts have competed successfully at showjumping. Some of the great Irish Showjumping Horses such as Boomerang were bred by crossing an Irish Draught Mare (Girl From The Brown Mountain) to a thoroughbred (Battleburn) Boomerang won many top international showjumping events including 4 Hickstead Derbies.
Breeding top performing horses is difficult and there is a lot hard work and luck involved but having a strong foundation breed of horse is alway important is horse breeding.
