A 5-month-old Roborovski hamster has a fire-red hairless belly & chest. Why?

The owner replaced papper litter with wood shavings but the Roborovski's under belly got more itchy, redder and balder. He scratches his belly and ears every few seconds. As he is a friendly hamster, he was allowed to roam on the carpet of the apartment unlike his mate. He likes to sleep and pee in his yellow den. Urine scalding is a possible diagnosis in this case. The hamster was clipped bald. Medicated wash given. Cleaning the den daily or remove it will lead to recovery.
