Safe & Unsafe Substrates (Bedding) For Hamsters

Dislike 0 Published on 5 Jan 2015

**There are a lot of comments about Carefresh apparently having a new formula that includes baking soda and many of you are asking if this is safe, from what I know a small amount of baking soda is absolutely harmless to small animals and the new formula should not affect your pet at all. Baking soda is a very common deodoriser that is used with all kinds of pets to reduce smell, from my own experience with Carefresh I did find that it got very smelly very quickly and other owners probably noticed this too so this is the likely reason for the formula change. Baking soda is only harmful if your pet eats large quantities of it, even if your hamster pouches its substrate its unlikely to cause problems. :)
