Feeding our pregnant guinea pig lettuce (Nellie...8-9 weeks?)

*Update: Nellie gave birth to three babies on 4/30/11 (there was a fourth but it didn't make it). So the 8-9 week estimate is probably correct here. We did see some noticeable growth in her belly even after this video.*

Yep, that's right. It turns out that our pet store-bought guinea pig, Nellie, is pregnant! By our estimates, she's 8-9 weeks pregnant, meaning she got pregnant around mid-February (we bought her March 5). By the looks of her, she's probably going to give birth to 2-3 guinea pig babies. It's both exciting and scary at the same time.

BTW, she normally comes much more eagerly to me when I have lettuce, but she's always suspicious when I'm holding the Flip camera haha.

First of all, Nellie has really, really grown on us. She is the sweetest thing and outgoing. I hear that one out of five sows dies while giving birth, so we're really hoping she'll be OK.

Second, we have no idea what we're going to do with all the babies. We're going to need more cage space, or people who will adopt them from us.

Third, if she has a boy, he will need to be separated from the rest of the girls after 3 weeks or so. If there's only one boy, he will be alone. So either Nellie has all girls, or she has at least two boys. That would be ideal.

We'll see what happens!
