Ear Infections in Guinea Pigs!

Dislike 0 Published on 12 Jun 2015

Causes, symptoms and treatment of ear infections in guinea pigs! If you suspect an ear infection your guinea pig MUST go to the vets. They will NOT get better on their own.

Look out for
* Head shaking
* Sensitivity/pain when touched near the ears
* Scratching at the ears
* Examine for signs of pus/discharge or nasty smells

When the infection has reached the middle or inner ear:
* Head tilting
* Loss of balance
* Rolling over

The vet will use an otoscope to examine the ears and if an infection is present they will prescribe a course of antibiotics for treatment. They may clean out the ear and give you some cleansing fluid. They may send any discharge off to be cultured for antibiotic testing.
