If you are a vegetarian/vegan watching a video with the title "Ferrets First Cavy Meat- WARNING RAW FED PETS" and disagree with it, you're a moron for clicking. lol
Keep in mind that availability of certain meats is not the same as everyone else. And I know ignorance is bliss, but please do your research before you make an idiot of yourself in the comments with your "Ouh noes, don't feeds pets to pets! How dare you be okay with that!" If you are okay with chickens being fed to people or other animals, it's highly immoral to complain about a rodent, or anything really, kept even less commonly as a pet than a rabbit is, being fed to something as food. Guinea Pigs were originally domesticated AS FOOD by the Incans, became pets later, rabbits too. Get over it. =P
I've never had them take right to something before, even with a mix of something they're used to(I had a mix of chicken, turkey and some organs, maybe some pork in there which is a common dinner mix I use). lol Cavy is guinea pig, for those who don't know(you can get it at some specialty stores for raw fed pets). This is ground up, bone fur and all, minus intestines and stomach. The first they've had with fur and all the bits, usually it's just different bits of turkey, chicken, duck, pork or beef or any number of other types of poultry(pheasant, quail etc) and rabbit. They rarely take right to something they haven't had before. Cooper was more than happy to lick it off my finger...though once they found the fur they weren't so happy about it, so I added in an egg yolk to entice them and they ate a good bit of it!
Eventually we're hoping to get them eating whole prey(NO LIVE), so it's a good start if they'll take right to guinea pig like that! I'm hoping they'll take to whole rabbit, since they already like ground rabbit meat.
I couldn't be happier about our progress. We started late, so it was a real pain getting them fully switched. As of now, they haven't had any kibble in uh....gee, I think it's almost been three months now. Unfortunately Cooper was diagnosed with Insulinoma last week, which can be attributed to both his bad breeding(Marshalls) and being fed kibble for his first year and few months of life(granted it was higher quality kibble, Wysong DS and Instinct), it doesn't change the fact they still have garbage in kibbles that is bad for them.
