This is an Aussie 80's Protest song and anthem. It was Australia day yesterday when I filmed this. Nearly 40 years later the protest is still going, in varying ways.
We had just come out of 45c / 115f degrees, and for a time we lost power.
Please excuse the flies, I have every door and window open to air.
So the food hierarchy has been this:
Fresh Grass
Timothy Hay (A grade)
Kale
Lettuce
All other veggies
All other hay
A few weeks ago they tired Chicory for the first time. They all left the grass and devoured it. This really surprised me
Not just the leaves but the stalk / root as well.
Chicory was used in Italy as a coffee substitute during the war, and is quite bitter.
I then did my research. IT is one of the ingredients in their pellets along with fescue hay, so it was not actually a first. I use Cavy Origins which is the best of the Australian that I have found. We used Oxbow for a while, but it was imported and insanely expensive.
Chicory is a really good low calcium choice, especially the stalks. They leave the spines of most lettuce. Nothing is left from chicory. It is similar / same as Radicchio and Endive, which are great choices.
SO lets give them some grass, lettuce and Chicory and see what happens
