Baby & Adult Guinea Pig Diet When Housed Together

Dislike 0 Published on 21 Jul 2016

ALL guinea pigs require long strand grass hay, so timothy or orchard grass for example. Feeding Alfalfa hay to baby pigs does NOT replace their need for grass hay. Alfalfa hay is really not required, but alfalfa pellets for pig under 6 months old is.

If you are housing a baby and an adult together however, feeding timothy based pellets is a must. Adults cannot handle too much calcium without health issues.

Pigs under 6 months can eat timothy based pellets just fine, that is completely healthy for them if they are housed with an adult BUT you will want to take the baby out for special one on one feedings of higher in calcium items until they are over 6 months old.

Calcium is essential for their growth and development. Feeding items like kale, parsley, dill or cilantro during lap time is a great way to ensure they are receiving enough calcium.

Please feed ALL ages of piggies grass hays, not alfalfa. Please feed adult pigs timothy based pellets.

If your guinea pig is pregnant or nursing, they do require extra calcium just like baby guinea pigs BUT otherwise adults do not need extra calcium.
