A guinea pig grows continuously unlike human teeth. They are worn down by the guinea pig eating hard food like hay. However, this guinea pig was not given sufficient hay and the teeth grew and grew. They overlap and the guinea pig cannot eat properly. He loses weight. This vet educational video shows the burring or cutting of the overgrown teeth to enable the guinea pig to eat normally again. After the procedure of burring using the Dremel 300 cutting wheel as shown in this video, the guinea pig now can chew hay normally and has gained weight.
Early signs like loss of appetite warn the owner that the teeth are overgrown. She sought Toa Payoh Vets for early treatment and now the guinea pig is thriving.
