Tips for Keeping your Indoor and Outdoor Guinea Pigs Warm in Winter!

Great tips on how to help keep your guinea pigs warm and toasty in the winter months!

* Can you bring your outdoor guinea pigs inside during winter or even just for the occasional night? It could make all the difference!

* Supply your piggies with extra heat in the form of heat pads/ old hot packs or hot water bottles. Remember to keep them out of the way of nibbling piggies though!

* Or we can add insulating materials to keep the heat in. Extra hay, bedding or fleece blankets/towels can help with this. You can also purchase insulating hutch covers. Cozy items can also be good, but don't let them get wet or they lose their insulating properties (the same applies for hay or other bedding materials - nobody wants a cold wet bed to sleep in!)

* Company and shared heat is extremely important in cold temperatures. Lone piggies will not do as well as piggies in groups, and would be much better off kept indoors during cold winter nights.

* Block drafty windows and doors and use hutch covers to keep cold drafts out.

* Keep the hutch or cage clean by cleaning everyday and for outdoor piggies consider cleaning them in the evening before nightfall.
