Today we visit Alderman Farms (http://www.youtube.com/aldermanfarms) to purchase two American Guinea Hog Gilts. These girls will not be dinner, they will be mama's - once we find a boar and they've reached breeding age.
You've seen the build-up videos of the DIY pig shelter and the big birthday reveal, but now it is time to fill the pen with piglets!
But what are American Guinea Hogs and what makes them so good for a small homesteader? For that, we'll ask Tommy Alderman who has been raising these animals because of their unique specialties.
Soon, we'll also be adding Duroc's to the mix - it is the Duroc's that will most likely end up on our table this winter.
