North East Guinea Pig Rescue, UK

North East Guinea Pig rescue is completely independent and self-funded. I set up the rescue in March 2008 as I felt that there was a need for a rescue in the North East that could provide shelter for unwanted guinea pigs. I thought that it would be beneficial to have a rescue that specifically catered for the needs of guinea pigs and that was run by someone who had experience of guinea pigs and had good knowledge about their needs.

The rescue takes in abandoned, neglected and unwanted guinea pigs both locally and nationally when needed. I also take in guinea pigs from other rescues and from the RSPCA. Since opening the rescue has taken in and re-homed over 400 guinea pigs. The rescue is totally against the breeding of any guinea pigs due to the amount of unwanted guinea pigs in the UK. No guinea pigs are bred at the rescue and no guinea pigs will be re-homed to people to be used for breeding.
