Guinea pigs were domesticated in 5 millennium BC. e. tribes of the Andes in South America (the territory of modern southern Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia) for human consumption [4], after a few thousand years after the domestication of camelids in South America. [5] The statues dating from the period from 500 BC. e. before 500 BC. e., depicting the guinea pigs were found during archaeological excavations in Peru and Ecuador [6]. People worshiped the Mochica culture guinea pigs and portrayed them on objects of art. [7] From 1200 until the Spanish conquest in 1532 was carried out breeding work, which allowed to bring a lot of breeds of guinea pigs, some of which are the foundations for the modern home guinea pigs [8].
